This weekend was definitely filled with national pride and celebration! 🇮🇸
Iceland survived against Argentina‘s attacks in the 2018 FIFA World Cup and the draw 1 – 1 were celebrated much vigorously.
Now we are super excited about our next game. You don’t need to travel too far for watching the tournament – we have two large flat screens in our bar so you can enjoy watching the matches and enjoy happy hour from 6 pm to 8 pm. #ÁframÍsland!
On June 17th we celebrated our National Day (Icelandic: Þjóðhátíðardagurinn) in heavy rain 😊
Interesting facts about this annual holiday: Iceland was ruled by Denmark until 1944 and on the 17th of June 1944, we became a Republic. So why this particular date? Well, this date was chosen as it is the birthday of Jón Sigurðsson who fought for our independence. Perhaps you might have seen him on our 500 kr bill? 🙂
So, on this day we celebrate! …and it’s all about balloons, parades, face paint, candy, concerts and happy faces.
We welcome the midnight sun!
Summer is definitely the power season for music festivals in Iceland.
Secret Solstice is an Icelandic music festival in it’s fifth year that will take place in Laugardalur area on the 21st – 24th of June over the summer solstice. Here you can find out more about the Solstice: http://secretsolstice.is/
