 Lively city centre!

As previous years, a good portion of Reykjavík city centre will be closed to motor traffic for the summer.
Starting 1st May, a section of Reykjavík’s main hight street, Laugavegur – as well as a number of adjacent small streets – will be reserved for foot and bicycle only. The “Summer streets” should serve the purpose of attract visitors and improve access to downtown shops and services.
Laugavegur is the primary commercial artery of downtown Reykjavík, and one of the oldest shopping streets. On Laugavegur, you can find cozy cafés, shops, clubs, bars, service companies and more. Something for every one! With the opening of the “Summer streets”, the downtown area will become more vibrant than before. Parts of Laugavegur will be painted with colorful colors, benches and flowerpots will be placed here and there to make the downtown area more lively.
Closed for the summer: Skólavörðustígur from Bergstaðarstræti to Bankastræti, Laugavegur from Vatnsstígur and Pósthússtræti.
See you there and gleðilegt sumar (“happy summer”)!
